Los barcos interesantes del puerto del Luperon - dan
(The interesting boats of Luperon harbor)
For someone who loves barcos (boats) as much as I do, Luperon harbor is a wonderfully fascinating place to explore. Boats of all shapes and sizes make their way into this very protected harbor, some never leave. Below is a selection of some of the more interesting barcos in the harbor.

There was a little drama on the SSB radio this morning when I tuned into Chris Parker’s Caribbean weather net out of Florida. Just before the net began there was a pan-pan call from a vessel that identified themselves as Columbine. They said that were hard aground and pounding on the reef. Their location is northwest of Cuba 22° 20.83’ N, 84°38’ W (appx 15 miles off the coast of Cuba). Three people are on board; they had been stuck on the reef for 24 hours; the vessel was not yet holed. Columbine wanted assistance from Cuban Search & Rescue to pull their boat free but were not able to raise Cuba on the radio. They had called the US Coast Guard who had apparently heard their first call but were not able to establish two way communication. Chris immediately called the US Coast Guard by phone. The Coast Guard had tried to call the Cuban authorities but got no response, which apparently is not unusual. A US CG cutter is on the way and is expected to arrive in six hours. My heart went out to the crew of Columbine who are in a desperate position, hoping to save not only their own lives but also their vessel.
